With the second overall pick, things are pretty simple for the New York Jets:
- Trade that pick, along with other assets, in a blockbuster trade with the Houston Texans for Deshaun Watson.
- Select your quarterback of the future, whoever tickles your fancy, and start over.
- Trade that selection to a team that is head over heels for one of these young passers for a king’s ransom.
Things aren’t as predictable with the 23rd overall pick.
So much can happen in the 22 picks ahead of the Jets. It’s a bit more complicated, but on a Mock Draft Monday we did our best to analyze the top five options the New York Jets should consider with the 23rd overall selection.
- EDGE
Players to watch:
Azeez Ojulari, Georgia + Kwity Paye, Michigan
2. CORNERBACK
Jaycee Horn, South Carolina + Greg Newsome II, Northwestern
3. WIDE RECEIVER
Kadarius Toney, Florida + Rashod Bateman, Minnesota
4. INTERIOR OFFENSIVE LINE
Alijah Vera-Tucker, USC + Trey Smith, Tennessee
5. TRADE BACK
The Jets currently have 6 picks in the top-100 of the 2021 NFL Draft. If they move on from incumbent quarterback Sam Darnold they’ll likely add another pick to that treasure trove. History tells us Joe Douglas enjoys trading back, just look at last year as an example. Don’t be surprised if they make that decision on draft day.
