Exclusive: Steelers’ Cornerback Steven Nelson Would “Love” To Play For The New York Jets

It is well known that the New York Jets have a gaping hole at the cornerback position, with only promising 2020 5th round draft pick Bryce Hall as a legitimate starting option on the current roster.

Going into the NFL draft in such a desperate spot at one of the league’s most important positions would be a terrible idea, which is something some of us having been screaming from the rooftops the past few days.

One player who could help alleviate arguably the biggest weakness on the New York Jets’ roster is Steven Nelson.

Nelson, a 28 year-old CB currently playing for the Steelers, has reportedly been given permission to seek a trade and if no trade were to get done, he would almost certainly be released.

Over the past 3 seasons, Nelson has been both durable and remarkably consistent, which fits exactly what the New York Jets need at the cornerback position.

But while Nelson is available and seemingly perfect for what ails Gang Green’s pass defense unit, would the star CB be interested in playing in NY?

Apparently, the answer is a resounding, “Yes!”

As revealed on today’s episode of the Play Like A Jet podcast, uStadium co-founder Nick Spano spoke with Nelson over the weekend and was told that the former Oregon State Beaver is well aware of how badly the New York Jets need a cornerback and would “love” to play in Robert Saleh’s defense, but that the decision wasn’t “up to him,” meaning that Gang Green would have to work out a trade for him or make him a strong offer if he is eventually released by Pittsburgh.

While Spano added that he has not been told whether the Jets would indeed pursue Nelson in a trade or if the star corner becomes a free agent, the uStadium co-founder said he does believe there is a good chance the player would be on Joe Douglas’ radar.
