Amid reports that the New York Jets are highly likely to select BYU quarterback Zach Wilson at #2 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft, hall of fame QB Steve Young added even more fuel to the fire.
Young, a BYU alum who has ties to both Wilson and the San Francisco 49ers, appeared on KNBR and in the process dropped a bit of a bombshell roughly 5 minutes into the interview.
“The Jets have committed to Zach Wilson and recruited his family,” Young told KNBR before adding that while Wilson would be San Francisco’s “first choice” with the 3rd overall pick they just acquired via trade from the Miami Dolphins, he doesn’t see how that could possibly happen since he has spoken to members of Gang Green’s coaching staff and reiterated that they had “committed” to Wilson.
There are still several weeks before the draft takes place and nothing is impossible, but when somebody of Young’s stature with ties to Zach Wilson, the San Francisco 49ers, and several prominent members of the New York Jets coaching staff speaks about something like this so emphatically, it is definitely worth paying attention.
