Before signing Carl Lawson last week, the last time the New York Jets had made a significant investment at EDGE rusher was when they signed Calvin Pace as a free agent in 2008.
And while Lawson was certainly the big ticket item for Gang Green this offseason at EDGE, he is not going to be the only addition at that position for the team heading into 2021, as this afternoon they announced the signing of Vinny Curry.
A former 2nd round pick out of Marshall in 2012, the 32 year-old Curry has spent 7 of his previous 8 seasons as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Neptune New Jersey native is known for being a steady presence on the edge, where he has amassed career totals of 32.5 sacks and 92 QB hits.
Jets’ general manager Joe Douglas is familiar with Curry from their time together in Philadelphia 2016-2018 and Gang Green was rumored to have been interested last season before the veteran defensive end decided to stay in Philadelphia.
While no longer at the level of the season he put together in 2014 that included 9 sacks, Curry should add solid depth to a position where that had been sorely lacking for much of the prior decade.
