Jets versus Eagles has history that’s dreadful for our Jets and it continued on Friday August 12th. Not only did Zack Wilson seem to be sluggishly going through his reads which ended in a an early pick but things went from bad to horrific in an instant when Zack tried to scramble upfield and jump cut to avoid a defender and fell without any contact. The most unimaginable Speculation started from a season-ending ACL injury to Jimmy Garoppolo trade proposals all without a shred of proof. There seem to be a dark cloud surrounding this team, even when things have been good as it has gone this off-season a derailed New York Jets plan is almost always a sure bet. There were some positives if you didn’t turn the game off after Zack went down.
Though there seem to be a continuation of last year on defense where they couldn’t stop the run because of players out of position in the second and third levels or allowing Quarterbacks to break contain, there were positives. Upfront Tanzel Smart played well showing power and athleticism like he did last year finished with 2 sacks on the night, Rookie Michael Clemons was on fire, he spent the night bullying whomever lined up across from him finishing with a sack, a QB hit, and a couple of hurries. Jabari Zuniga who has been flashing throughout camp had a pressure and a sack.
On offensive line wasn’t very good. The Jets couldn’t run the ball all night h and seem to do better passing. The reserves on offense did well to rescue the team from the jaws of defeat. Rookie QB Chris Streveler had many stand-out plays with both his legs and his arm. Denzel Mims, Lawrence Cager, Calvin Jackson and Jeremy Ruckert all performed admirably helping the team to come back. Mike White had a good showing also finishing with 98 yards and running back Zanavon Knight also had a touchdown.
All in all there still was fight left in this team after getting over the initial shock of losing Zack Wilson to injury. They get to go in and iron out the wrinkles we saw thought the game and come out against the Atlanta Falcons and do better. We cannot see the same effort from the starting defense. I know that some of the starters didn’t play but getting outflanked by a screenplay even when in a simple zone defensive call shouldn’t be the norm. Also there hasn’t been a definitive answer to what will be Zack Wilson’s timetable. He is currently on his way to the west coast for surgery after which there will be more information.
